Two Best-selling Novelists talk candidly about the emotional aspect of arthritis
Coping with the emotional aspect of arthritis can be just as difficult as the physical aspect. There is the general misconception that only elderly people have arthritis. The truth is arthritis can happen to young and otherwise healthy individuals.
Maeve Binchy and Martina Cole are two best-selling novelists suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. In their recent interviews with the Telegraph, they candidly talked about the stigmatism associated with arthritis, and how they tried to keep the condition a secret for years. Maeve disclosed that she used to arrive to meetings way in advance to avoid friends seeing her limping. Martina was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at age 21 and didn’t tell people at work for years. Maeve and Martina also shared how they cope with the pain, insomnia, and other physical-emotional aspects of their condition.
